Choosing the Perfect Location for your needs:

Lake Tahoe boasts numerous scenic spots, each with its own charm. We have several iconic locations like Emerald Bay and Sand Harbor. Note that these locations are popular and, as a result, are very crowded! If you want Emerald Bay to yourself, consider a sunrise elopement but I will say lighting there can be harsh and not ideal. I would suggest fiding a more secluded place and avoiding State Parks. There are plenty of different location that are just as beautiful, offer more privacy, reduce stress, and don't always require permits!

Securing Permits and Regulations:

Some locations within Lake Tahoe, all state parks for example, require permits for ceremonies and photography. Research the specific requirements for your chosen site, whether it's a public beach, park, or forest area. Obtain the necessary permits well in advance to ensure a seamless experience and avoid any last-minute complications.

Here is a good article with a list of locations that require permits with an idea of pricing.

Marriage License Requirements:

Before your Lake Tahoe elopement, familiarize yourself with the marriage license requirements. Obtain the necessary documents, such as identification, birth certificates, and any required paperwork. Research the specific regulations for obtaining a marriage license in Nevada or California, depending on the side of the lake you choose.

Sunset or Sunrise:

For the best lighting, I highly suggest you consider timing your ceremony to coincide with sunrise or sunset. Check the sunrise and sunset times for your desired date and location, and plan your day accordingly. Keep in mind that this can vary slightly from what your seach tells you if you are in a mountain's shadow or high up on an overlook. I am always happy to help my clients pick the perfect time for their exact location and will often scout it out beforehand to make sure we have it just right.

Accommodations and Logistics:

Lake Tahoe offers a range of accommodation options, from luxury resorts to cozy cabins and vacation rentals. Consider finding a charming rental home and host a small reception there. Better yet, there are many rentals that offer stunning vista views, or are backed to a river in the forest....locations that would make for a magical elopement ceremony right there in your own (rented) back yard! Here are a few examples of the types of rentals you can find in the area.

Pre and Post-Elopement Activities:

Make your elopement an adventure by planning something fun and romantic before or after your ceremony. This can truly bring out your personality in photos and tell a captivating story, making your photos and experience even more special. Rent a boat to take you to and from your secluded beach ceremony location, go horseback riding after the ceremony in your wedding dress, or rent a vintage car for photos and drive around the lake.
